‘Delhi Belly’ has a mature subject

Delhi Belly, Imran Khan’s next is one of the most talked about movies this season. It’s first trailer was unveiled for few media houses a few days ago. The poster of the movie is also doing the rounds on the internet and has created quite a buzz.

Produced by superstar Aamir Khan, Delhi Belly is said to be a mature subject, with steamy scenes, and characters saying “blow job” featured in the first promo itself. The movie has received A certificate due to the mature nature of the content.

Talking to media, Aamir Khan said, “Delhi Belly is a comic caper targeted at a young audience. People who can’t identify with disrespectful and unclean language ought to stay away from it. It’s an adult film. When we went to the Censors, we approached them for an A-certificate.”

Aamir Khan insisted that Censor Board liked the movie a lot and they didn’t cut any scenes from the movie. It will be releasing on July 1st. Director Abhinav Deo is extremely happy about the movie getting all the attention in its initial stages only and hopes to keep the hype up till the release.

Aamir Khan added, “My films had normally been family films or they had a social message. This is our first film which is certainly not for children because it has obscene language. We applied for adult certification for the film and we have got that. It’s not even for those who have reservations about curse words. I myself don’t use such words or language, but it fits the script. It’s a very irreverent film, but it has humour in it.”

Delhi Belly also has comedian Vir Das and Rang De Basanti famed Kunal Roy Kapoor in lead roles. When asked about director Abhinay Deo, Aamir Khan said, “I had seen Abhinay’s ads. So I was really impressed with his work. Abhinay liked the script and that’s how Abhinay came on board.”

He added, “As a producer I am very happy the way Abhinay has made the film, showed humour and made it more exciting. I think he has fully justified the faith we had in him.”

Aamir Khan said that he wanted to play a more prominent role in Delhi Belly. He said, “I was dying to do a role in this film. I regret that I didn’t work as an actor in this film. I wanted to do the role of Kunal Roy Kapoor. But the character is supposed to be fat and sloppy. I just didn’t want to put on weight as I have worked very hard to lose it.”

Luv Ka The End review

Luv Ka The End is quite a surprise, really. From the promos, it may look like a shallow teen movie with newcomers. But it will definitely surprise you with its fresh cast and a different, almost self-deprecating treatment.

Rhea (Shraddha Kapoor), who is known as a “behenji” in her college, falls in love with Luv (Taha Shah), the college dude. But soon, she finds out that there love affair was just a pretense to earn some points in his Rich-Boys Club. Heartbroken, Rhea decides to take revenge on Luv and turn him into a mockery.

Produced by Y-Films, the new youth movie wing of Yash Raj Films, Luv Ka The End is a breezy movie and youngsters are sure to like it. Performances by all the main actors are satisfactory. Taha Shah may not be the next Ranvir Singh, but the way he has put himself in the “Mera Jism Jism, Mera Badan Badan” is really brave.

Any actor, who is willing to wear a ghagra choli and dance on an item number, deserves attention. Shraddha Kapoor, who is Shakti Kapoor’s daughter and was last seen in the flop “Teen Patti” does a fairly good job.

But the rest of the cast disappoints. Instead of writing new-age and real characters, the director chooses to use the same old clichéd characterization. The girls who played Rhea’s friends are straight out of any Hindi, English, Tamil or any other teen movie in the world. We expected more originality from a banner owned by Yash Raj Films.

The low brow marketing of this movie may not have created a huge hype around it, but this just might work in favor of the movie. The audience goes into the theater with no expectations and end up getting pleasantly surprised. Don’t miss Luv Ka The End this weekend!

loveaajkal1Come to think of it, if the film carries the ‘burden’ of humungous expectations, it’s imperative that it goes beyond those expectations. The reaction after watching the film has to be similar to a child who has laid his hands on his fav toy. The joyous smile would say it all. The question is, does LOVE AAJ KAL live up to the hype and hoopla surrounding it? Or does it go beyond that?

LOVE AAJ KAL is not an easy film to write and execute. Sure, it’s a love story, but it’s not one of those mundane love stories that talks of love and heartache. Here, the two stories, set in different eras, run parallel, but have a similar end.

To be brutally honest, it takes time to grasp the plot, since the past and present run concurrently. If you aren’t attentive, chances are you’d lose the plot. Also, if you aren’t aware by now that Saif enacts dual roles in the film — playing his part as also the part of young Rishi Kapoor — the goings-on would confuse you no end, when the transition occurs.

LOVE AAJ KAL is a director’s show entirely. The relationships here are complex because the couple in love lives in complete denial. It is to Imtiaz Ali’s credit that he has penned an offbeat story, developed a complex but comprehensive screenplay and extracted sensitive performances from the principal cast. At the same time, the writing isn’t the type that would appeal to all sections of movie-going audience. Besides, the execution of the subject and also the pacing in the first hour are deterrents.

Kambakht Ishq Box Office Report

Akshay Kumar has reasons to smile. His much hyped ‘Kambakkth Ishq’ has managed to build a good hype amongst the audiences, something which is reflecting from the favourable response that it has received via a healthy advance booking. Though quite a few multiplexes and single screens opened their advance booking only on Wednesday (which is the norm), some major chains (like PVR) opened it early as Sunday to gauge audience’s interest in the film. Thankfully, it was all positive, something which would definitely have contributed to sudden plans for paid previews that were hosted on Thursday.

However, Sajid Nadiadwala and Co. took a guarded approach as instead of going ballistic with paid previews and playing multiple shows all through the evening and night, they kept it low profile with only a show each at select multiplexes in major cities. Moreover, the show timings were also quite late in the night with some of them beginning as late as 11 PM. Obviously, the makers and especially the leading man Akshay Kumar have learnt the lesson from ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ debacle where negative reviews had started flowing as early as 9 PM Thursday night once the first paid preview (at 6PM) had come to a close.

Though sources indicate that the makers of ‘Kambakkth Ishq’ are quite confident of their product, it made sense to have a restricted viewing of the film rather than it being a wholesome affair, lest it led to any negativity. In any case, record number of prints are being circulated across the country which means that opening weekend collections should be quite a bountiful.

There have been murmurs around the promos not being really strong for this Akshay and Kareena starrer. However, one just hopes that the team of ‘Kambakkth Ishq’ is hiding the real stuff in the background rather than revealing it all in the promos itself; a mistake that recent release ‘Paying Guest’ made and suffered badly. It would be better for a film with such a huge scale to let audiences warm up to the film and that’s a path this Sabbir Khan directed film seems to be taking.

As are the indicators right now, the film should fetch good numbers in the opening weekend even if they aren’t record breaking per se. While ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ and ‘Singh Is Kinng’ hold the record of netting 40 crores or more in their first week (with ‘Ghajini’ going through the ceiling with a 60 crores + opening, it would be fair if ‘Kambakkth Ishq’ crosses 35 crores mark at the least. This is where the film seems to be headed as well and even though a few may complain that these collections would be less for an Akshay Kumar biggie, one has to keep in mind that he has suffered two recent flops in ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ and ’8X10 Tasveer’, something which is looming large on audience’s mind. Moreover, 35 crores is not a bad number too as long as the film can sustain in weeks to come.

With ‘Shortkut – The Con Is On’ being the only major release in week to follow and ‘Jashnn’ arriving on 17th July, ‘Kambakkth Ishq’ now has to be just a decent enough film to keep showing steady collections before ‘Luck’ arrives on 24th July.

The Tata Nano will initially be available in three models: the Nano (base model), Nano CX (mid-level model) and Nano LX (top-end model). The Nano is expected to sport an on-road price of Rs 1.25-1.3 lakh (Rs 125,000-130,000) for the no-frills, base version. Its high-end version, complete with air-conditioning, central locking, power windows and power steering, will cost approximately Rs 1.7 lakh (Rs 170,000).

Booking forms will be available at SBI, Westside, Croma stores and, of course, 400-odd Tata Motors dealerships. Booking forms will be available for only 14 days.

The Nano will come with a warranty of 18 months or 24,000 km.
