Guru Nanak Dev University was established at Amritsar on November 24, 1969 to mark the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is both a residential and an affiliating university. In conceiving the future course of the University, the objectives enshrined in the Guru Nanak Dev University Act 1969, emphasised that the new University would make provision for imparting education and promoting research in the humanities, learned professions, sciences, especially of applied nature and technology.

National Doctor’s Day is a day for normal people to show appreciation and say thanks to all doctors who care for them. Doctors perform vital diagnosis and treatment.
Doctor’s Day is celebrated in India on July 1st every year. Doctor’s Day celebrations started in 1991 when the Government of India recognised July 1, the birth anniversary as well as the date of demise of famous physician, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy (BC Roy).

Doctor’s Day is celebrated in the US and other western countries on March 30 – the day when Dr. Crawford W. Long first used ether anaesthesia in surgery.

To mark the 148th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on Baishakh 25, special gathering and fair titled ‘Rabindra Mela’ organised by Channel i will be held at own office of Channel i at Tejgaon in the city on May 8.

This year the organiser will give honour to the noted and veteran Tagore artiste Kalim Sharafi. Kalim Sharafi will get lifetime achievement award on the programme. The fair will be inaugurated at 11:05am and it will end at 5:00pm where eminent personalities including artists, singers, poets, cultural activists, editors and journalists of national dailies will participate the day-long fair.

Country’s leading artists will draw portraits of Rabindranath Tagore. Later selling money from these portraits will be spent on the Rabindranath related research works. The whole programme will conduct by Amirul Islam and Shahidul Alam Sachchu. Dresses of Rabindranath Tagore, Togore related written books, paintings, record cover of songs, Tagore’s favourite food items will be on display in the fair. Therefore, film on Rabindranath Tagore will be screened and recitation and musical programme on Tagore will be also held in the day-long event.

A press conference was held to disclose the matter and programme schedule at the Siddeswari office of Channel i yesterday. Managing Director of Channel i Faridur Reza Sagar, Director and Head of News of Channel i Shaykh Siraj, poet Asad Chowdhury, artist Hashem Khan, among others, were present at the conference.
