Mr. Sharad Pawar while addressing Question Hour in Lok Sabha on Tuesday said that there is no specific proposal to distribute food subsidy directly to consumers. He further said schemes/ action plans have been formulated by the government to control the demand from bulk consumers. Some of measures are shoring up of supply and to restore the distribution system.
Mr. Shara Pawar said, “There is no specific proposal where one can provide a subsidy directly to the consumers. But in targeted Public Distribution System at every level there is a substantial provision of subsidy”. The cost for the subsidy for PDS which is about Rs.55, 000 crore is already taken care of by the government and provision will be available to all the states.

Finance Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that the inflation could reach double-digit in March. The annual inflation levels increased to 16-month high of 9.89% in February because of higher fuel prices and manufacturing items. Government is confident that the inflation will come down in a few months because of the decline in food prices.
