Ra.One – Probably the most awaited music score of the year is out! And if you were expecting an international, superb and memorable music score, then you were expecting just right!

The music score starts with Chammak challo! Sung by international star Akon, this song was leaked on the internet few months ago and was an instant hit. The song, though not same as the leaked version, is a sure shot chartbuster. If last year belonged to Munni and Sheila, then the coming months will surely belong to Chammak Challo.

Following Chammak Challo is a romantic number, Dildaara. A duly credited version of English Classic “Stand by me” this is a soulful rendition by Shafqat Amanat Ali. You won’t be able to stop listening to this number.

This is followed by another absolute CHARTBUSTER – Criminal. Another Akon number, Criminal has an amazing mix of R&B with Punjabi beats. One can imagine people going nuts on dance floors on this number. It will be interesting to see how they have picturized this number.

The fourth song on the CD is a complete surprise. A semi-classical sad song named Bhare Naina takes you to a deep, blue corner of your heart. A departure from the otherwise happy and peppy feel of the album, Bhare Naina is sentimental and beautifully sung.

Then there is Raftaarein! When this song starts, you almost do a double take. That’s because it just sounds like a R.D. Burman song. Vishal sings in the typical R.D. Burman style and will transport you back to 1970s.

Another soulful song is Stand By Me. Another version of the English classic, the song is a happy “Main hoon na” kind of number. It makes you feel happy and all “gooey” inside. This is the song that you can sing for almost any loved in your life.

Album also consists a number remixes, background scores and a chase song sung by Sukhwinder Singh. All of these numbers give you a sense of Ra.One. It gives you a glimpse of the grandeur of this movie.

In short, if you were going to purchase just one music CD this year, then make it Ra.One. The CD also comes with a booklet with special pictures and an introduction of all the characters. The package of the CD is also very stylish and matches the theme of the movie.

Blog of India rating – 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.

Javed Akthar, the veteran lyricist has translated Vande Mataram to Hindi for the forth coming film ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’, directed by Aushutosh Gowariker.

The 65 year old lyricist told us when asked if he found this task easy or difficult “I think if you are inspired, if you have that high energy created by the original text then it becomes easier for a writer to do something. So I won’t say it was difficult although I was obviously and terribly over-awed by the responsibility. But somehow it happened very quickly and to the satisfaction of the music director (Sohail Sen) and the director”.

This brand movie is all set to hit the screens on Dec 3rd 2010 and the story of ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ revolves around the true life story of series of attacks executed on April 18th 1930 on the British empire, in Chittagong. The move starts Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles

On Wednesday, the music of the film was launches and celebrities like Aishwarya Rai, Jaya Bachchan, Kirron Kher and Anupam Kher were part of the launch. However, Jr Bachchan was not present.

As the story developed in a part of Bengal, Javed Akhtar said that he had to keep certain things in mind while penning the lyrics. He said “When you take the background of a film, which is in a way alien to Hindi and Urdu – you have to still write the songs in Hindi or Urdu only, but it should somehow put the impression that perhaps this song has come from that language or that state or that era. “There are many words which cannot be used and there are many words that will help you create that literary illusion. In this film, the characters are Bengali, if I use chaste Urdu with them that will sound false. So it should sound as if it has just been translated from Bengali. That effect should come in the album and that’s what we have taken care of”.

Javed Akhtar has previously worked with Gowariker in popular movies such as Lagaan, What’s your Rashee?, Swades and Jodha Akbar.

Vishal-Shekhar are the music-director duo for soundtracks in Golmaal, while Pritam Chakraborty has taken over their task for ‘Golmaal Returns’ and has done an excellent job.  There is a sense of retro music of the 1980s and a hint of contemporary music in the third installment making the album a great one. One can find six originals and three remix versions in the album ‘Golmaal 3’.

KK, Monali Thakur and Anushka  Manchanda have been roped  in for the title track of the film which is full of energy and vibration.  The spirit and energy of the title tracks of the two movies produced earlier has been retraced in this track, but it stands out for itself too.  It is appealing, vivacious and has spunky music much to the delight of the DJs.  The start seems to be very interesting. A re-mixed version is also included.

“Apna har din” is a motivational song that has been sung by Shaan and Anushka.  Living life to the utmost seems to be the theme of the fast number.  The music does not seem up to the mark, although the lyrics are interesting.  The remix of this song also gets an average score.

There are English lyrics at the beginning of the song ‘Ale’, soon followed by Hindi.  This score does not have a peppy music and is quite an average.  Neeraj Sridhar and Antara Mitra have rendered the sung but do not in any way add to the peppiness of the album.

Another fast number “Desi Kali” follows.  The music seems familiar and doesn’t seem so interesting.  It is a love song and has strong, high beats, but it is not quite intersting.  Neeraj and Sunidhi’s voice does not seem to enthrall the audience’s heart. This song has also been remixed.

Two back-to-back songs from the Mithun  Chakroborty starrer ‘Disco Dancer’ which hit the theatres in 1982 have  also been included in the album.

The original rendition of the song ‘Disco Dancer’ whose music and is by Bappi Lahiri comes first.  Refreshing the memories of the disco era, it is still so popular even after a gap of many years.  The superb composition is equally popular today as it was in yesteryears.

The Sudesh Bhosle rendered song “Yaad aa raha hai” too brings in the retrospective effect and is expected to get the audience response similar to the one that the song originally received.
In fact, conclusively ‘Golmaal 3’ is a mixture of hits and misses.  But the album seems to be appealing to the audience.
